Social support hinders microinsurance demand for the poor in Ghana.
The study looked at how poor people in Ghana view social support and microinsurance. They found that the poor see social support as a replacement for microinsurance, and are less likely to get microinsurance when they have more social support. The study suggests that the poor should be taught to use microinsurance alongside social support, and that microinsurance companies should work with phone companies to create affordable insurance plans in places where the poor get social support.
