Zero tillage boosts nitrogen availability for cotton crops in semiarid regions.
The study looked at how different farming methods affect the amount of nitrogen available to cotton plants in dry soil. They compared traditional plowing with a no-till method and found that keeping crop residues on the field increased nitrogen levels in the soil. At certain stages of cotton growth, the no-till method with residue retention had significantly higher nitrogen levels compared to traditional plowing. This suggests that using the no-till method with residue retention can help maintain nitrogen levels for cotton plants in dry climates.
