Hydrogen sulfide boosts eggplant growth under salt stress, improving crop yields.
Exposing eggplant seedlings to salt stress can harm their growth and health, but treating them with hydrogen sulfide (H2S) can help. The researchers tested different levels of salt and H2S on the seedlings in a controlled greenhouse. They found that H2S treatments improved plant growth, reduced membrane damage, and helped maintain healthy levels of chlorophyll and water content. Salt stress increased harmful substances like hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde in the seedlings, but H2S treatments lowered these levels. Additionally, salt stress increased the plant's ABA content and decreased mineral uptake, but H2S treatments reversed these effects. Overall, H2S seems to protect eggplant seedlings from salt stress by regulating enzyme activity, reducing harmful substances, and maintaining mineral levels.
