South Africa's First Tidal Power Plant Set to Revolutionize Energy Sector
South Africa is exploring tidal energy as a renewable alternative to fossil fuels for electricity generation. By harnessing the movement of tides, electrical power can be generated. After analyzing tidal patterns, Esikhawini was identified as an optimal site for a tidal power plant. A helical cross-flow turbine was chosen for its efficiency in capturing tidal energy. An analytical model using blade element momentum theory was developed and tested in a laboratory setting.
