New models optimize barley irrigation, boosting crop yield and water productivity!
The researchers studied how to optimize watering schedules for barley crops to increase productivity. They used two models, AquaCrop and MOPECO, to compare different irrigation strategies for barley. The results showed that with more water, barley yields were higher, but with less water, yields decreased. MOPECO predicted higher yields and water productivity compared to AquaCrop. Both models accurately simulated crop growth and water use, with AquaCrop showing more detailed crop responses. Overall, both models are useful depending on the user's needs, with MOPECO offering more irrigation options and AquaCrop providing detailed crop information.
