Soil quality study reveals urgent need for cluster-specific fertilizer recommendations.
The study looked at soil quality in different areas of an irrigation scheme in Kenya. Researchers divided the land into clusters based on erosion, soil characteristics, and nutrients. They found six clusters with varying levels of erosion and soil compactness. Soil pH was suitable for crops in all clusters, but nitrogen and organic carbon were lacking. Fertilizer recommendations should be tailored to each cluster, especially for phosphorous and potassium.
