New forecasting strategy improves accuracy of streamflow predictions in China.
Accurate long-term streamflow forecasts are crucial for managing flood and drought risks. A new method was developed to predict monthly streamflow in southeastern China. By using artificial intelligence models with baseflow and surface runoff data, better predictions were achieved compared to using streamflow alone. Including both baseflow and surface runoff values in the models improved the accuracy of predicting peak flows and monthly streamflow amounts. This approach can help improve long-term streamflow forecasting in the region.
