West Africa's Estuarine Sandspits Facing Alarming Changes in Morphodynamics.
Estuaries in West Africa are changing due to human activities like dam construction and coastal erosion projects. Researchers studied two estuaries along the Bight of Benin coast to see how they are evolving. They used images from 1984 to 2020 to look at the shape of the estuaries and how sand moves along the coast. The results show that the amount of sand moving along this coast is one of the highest in the world, with rates of 105–106 cubic meters per year.
