Terraces Reduce Soil Erosion by 37% in Ethiopian Watershed.
The study aimed to reduce soil erosion and sedimentation in the Upper Gillo watershed in Ethiopia. Researchers used a model to simulate streamflow and sediment yield, and tested different management practices. They found that applying terraces was the most effective way to reduce sediment yield, with a potential reduction of almost 42%. Other practices like filter strips and contouring also showed significant reductions in sediment yield. Overall, implementing these practices could help reduce soil erosion and improve the health of the watershed.
