Oil-rich UAE can slash emissions by 40% through CO2-enhanced recovery and storage
By using a method called CO2-Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) combined with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), oil production in the United Arab Emirates can become more environmentally friendly. The study showed that a carbon price of $10-15 per ton of CO2 in the next ten years can help offset the costs of this process. By 2030, this approach could even break even financially. Implementing CO2-EOR with CCS could reduce CO2 emissions in the UAE by 72.85 million tons per year by 2030 and free up natural gas to cover 12-20% of local energy needs, thus supporting cleaner energy practices.
