Wastewater treatment plants can now predict efficiency with new formula
In the study, water quality in the Iraqi Southern region was checked using two types of tests – BOD5 and COD – to see how well they predict organic pollutants in water. Samples from the Al-Gharaf river were tested monthly for a year. Results revealed a strong link between BOD5 and COD values, with a correlation coefficient of 0.908 and an R2 value of 0.89. Using this information, researchers created a formula to estimate BOD5 levels, which was successfully validated using data from Korean rivers. This formula could help assess wastewater treatment plant efficiency.
