Mature sea rush plants key in removing chloride from contaminated soil.
The researchers studied how three types of plants can remove chloride from salty soil. They grew common reed, sea rush, and cattail in salty soil for 65 days. They found that mature sea rush plants are best at removing chloride. Mature plants of all three species can handle salty soil well. Juvenile plants are not as good at removing chloride. Common reed is not as effective as sea rush and cattail. So, if you want to clean up salty soil, use mature sea rush plants.
