Increase Rice Yields by Focusing on Panicle Numbers, Study Suggests.
The study analyzed the yield and yield components of a super hybrid rice called Ganxin688 grown in the Poyang Lake Region of Jiangxi Province as double-season late rice. The researchers found that the number of panicles per hectare had the biggest direct impact on yield, followed by the number of grains per panicle. When there were fewer effective panicles in the field, increasing their number was crucial for higher yield. However, once the effective panicles and yield per hectare reached certain levels, focusing on increasing grains per panicle became more important. The study also suggested specific yield components and cultural practices for achieving high yields in this region.
