Rice sector in Bhutan sees boost in productivity through technology!
The article examines the productivity growth of Bhutan's rice sector from 2009 to 2017. The researchers used a method called the Malmquist index to measure productivity growth and found that technological advancements were the main driver of increased productivity. Different regions in Bhutan showed varying levels of productivity growth, with the Dry Sub-Tropical and Humid Sub-Tropical zones performing better than others. Factors like irrigation, population, and rainfall were identified as important contributors to rice productivity growth. The study suggests that improving agricultural extension services, providing government assistance to farmers, and establishing regional rice research stations could help boost productivity in the future.
