Windstorms reshape forest plant life, enhancing diversity and species richness.
Windstorms can impact the plants in forests, changing their diversity and traits. A study in a forest in Poland looked at how wind disturbance affected herbaceous plants. They found that the impact varied depending on the type of habitat. In coniferous areas, some traits decreased, while in mixed-coniferous areas, richness increased. In mixed-deciduous areas, both richness and divergence decreased. Swamps saw little change. Overall, species richness increased with disturbance, except in coniferous areas. The relationship between disturbance and habitat type was complex and closely linked.
