New Drainage System Boosts Farmland Resilience Against Flooding and Waterlogging
Farmland in southern China often faces flooding and waterlogging issues after heavy rainfall. To address this, a study tested different combined drainage methods in an indoor experiment. They found that combining conventional subsurface drainage with open ditches or improved subsurface drainage can significantly increase water flow rates, improving flooding and waterlogging removal efficiency. The combination of open ditches and thick-improved subsurface drainage showed the best results, removing water faster than conventional drainage methods. The study suggests that using a mix of shallow-deep and medium-medium drainage combinations can effectively manage flooding and waterlogging in farmland.
