Plastic mulches can help potato farmers in Bangladesh save water, control weeds, and increase yields. A study at RDA, Bangladesh, compared black and blue plastic mulches with strip tillage and no mulch. The black plastic mulch treatment had the highest potato yield of 25.1 t/ha, while blue plastic mulch, control, and strip tillage had lower yields. Plants with black plastic mulch matured faster and had better tuber growth. Black plastic mulch helps retain soil moisture and warmth. Using different mulches can improve potato production in semi-arid regions like Bangladesh.
