Net-zero energy communities: The future of sustainable living, revolutionizing energy efficiency and renewable integration.
The article discusses Net Zero Energy Buildings (nZEBs) and the importance of occupant energy-saving behaviors for achieving this goal. It introduces the concept of Net Zero Energy Communities (nZECs) as an expansion of nZEBs. Four definitions for ZEBs are outlined: net zero site energy, net zero source energy, net zero energy costs, and net zero energy emissions. Various methods for creating energy consumption models are proposed for load forecasting and cost-saving estimates. The formation of nZECs is seen as a solution to community-level energy challenges. The nZEC helps bridge the gap between renewable energy generation and building energy demands, promoting local energy sustainability and efficiency.
