Daylighting Strategies Slash Building Energy Costs, Boost Sustainability
The study looked at how to properly bring daylight into the Monetary Times Building at Ryerson University without causing problems like excessive brightness and glare. They found that letting in too much uncontrolled light can ramp up cooling costs and energy use, offsetting the benefits of daylight. By rethinking the building's lighting strategies, they discovered that they could save a significant amount of energy—up to 135038.4 kilowatt-hours per year or around 61.76 kilowatt-hours per square meter.
