Piano key weir outperforms rectangular weir in handling increased flood flows
Nonlinear weirs like piano key and rectangular labyrinth weirs are used to manage increased flood flows from climate change. Instead of just physical tests, this study used computer simulations to understand how these weirs work. The piano key weir is better than the rectangular labyrinth weir at handling water flow in different situations. The reason is that the piano key weir lets water flow out from the sides more efficiently.
