The study aimed to improve cotton productivity in central India by using a decision support system called Nutrient Expert. Field trials showed that following Nutrient Expert's fertilizer recommendations led to higher cotton yields and cost savings compared to traditional methods. The study found that Nutrient Expert-based fertilization resulted in better lint yield and profitability, with similar nutrient use efficiency for nitrogen and potassium. Farmers using Nutrient Expert applied fertilizers more effectively, while those using traditional methods often applied excess phosphorus. Overall, the study demonstrated that Nutrient Expert can help increase cotton productivity and profitability in rainfed areas.
