Intercropping maize with grain legumes like cowpea, peanut, and soybean can increase overall crop yield and monetary benefits. Planting maize with legumes in a 2:1 ratio was found to be the most productive, with maize + peanut showing the highest monetary advantage index. Maize intercropped with soybean in a 4:1 ratio gave the highest maize equivalent yield. Intercropping legumes with maize was more effective than planting them alone. Maize + peanut in a 2:1 ratio had the highest cost/benefit ratio. Overall, intercropping maize with legumes can lead to higher yields and financial gains compared to planting them separately.
