Geographical origin of immigrants shapes public attitudes toward immigration in Europe.
The article explores public attitudes towards immigration in Europe. Researchers surveyed people in six European countries to understand how they feel about immigrants from different regions and why they come to Europe. They found that where immigrants come from is the biggest factor shaping attitudes, with Western European, Eastern European, and African/Middle Eastern immigrants being viewed differently. The reasons for immigrating also play a role in how people feel about immigration. Overall, perceptions of the impact of immigration on the host country were less important than the origin of immigrants in shaping attitudes.
