Green super rice shows higher drought tolerance potential and novel genes.
Pre-anthesis drought stress in green super rice affects important traits like pollen fertility, plant health, and grain yield. In this study, 26 rice lines were compared under normal and drought conditions. The drought-tolerant green super rice lines showed better performance in terms of pollen viability, plant growth, and grain production compared to local varieties. Certain genes, like OsSADRI and OsDSM1, were found to be upregulated in response to drought stress, indicating their role in drought tolerance. New genes related to drought tolerance, such as OsDRG-1 and OsDRG-2, were also identified. These findings suggest that green super rice has a higher potential for drought tolerance and could be used in breeding programs to develop more resilient rice varieties.
