Cutting Methane Emissions from Fossil Fuels Could Save Billions, Curb Climate Change
The SERPEC-CC project aims to find ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels in the EU. They focused on cutting methane emissions, which make up 82% of total emissions. By 2030, they predict a 49% reduction in emissions, with coal mining and oil/natural gas sectors having the most potential for cuts. Some measures can even make money while reducing emissions. Overall, the project shows that significant emission reductions can be achieved at low costs in the EU.
