Living mulch decreases sunflower yield, delays growth stages significantly.
The researchers wanted to see how planting fenugreek alongside sunflowers affects their growth and yield. They planted fenugreek at different times and tested three sunflower varieties. They found that planting fenugreek before sunflowers decreased their yield and delayed their growth stages. But planting fenugreek at the same time or after sunflowers led to higher yields. The Farrokh sunflower variety had the highest oil content, while the Lakomka variety had the highest overall yield. Overall, planting fenugreek too early can hurt sunflower growth, but planting it at the right time can boost yields.
