Subjective social status in China was studied from 2010 to 2018 using data from the China Family Panel Studies. Most people see themselves as middle-class, with average social status increasing over time. Different factors like education and income affect how people perceive their social status, with wealth and job status widening the gaps between classes. Wealth has a strong impact on social status dynamics in China.
