Thai industrial sector can reduce 31% of greenhouse gas emissions by adopting best carbon intensity practices.
The researchers looked at how factories in Thailand use energy and release greenhouse gases. They found that even though only 7% of the factories emit the most greenhouse gases, they account for 80% of the total emissions. By comparing different levels of greenhouse gas intensity, they calculated that Thailand could reduce 29 million tons of CO2, or 31%, if factories improved to the best level. In a more average scenario, there could still be a reduction of 15 million tons of CO2, which is about 16% of the country's industrial sector emissions in 2018.
