Cover crops revive degraded soil, boost crop yield in Argentina.
The study looked at how adding different cover crops to a degraded common bean field in Argentina affected the soil and crop yield over three years. They found that using legumes and non-legumes as cover crops increased the abundance of important soil microbes and improved soil quality compared to just growing beans. Mixtures of cover crops also helped, but not as much as using legumes or non-legumes alone. This information shows that planting specific cover crops can help restore soil health and prevent further degradation while still maintaining crop yields.
