Cow Dung Bacteria Produce Powerful Enzyme to Degrade Toxic Textile Dyes
A type of bacteria named Enterobacter sp. AI1 was found to have a special enzyme called laccase that can break down colorful dyes used in textiles. Scientists studied how the laccase from this bacteria could remove dyes like Malachite Green and others. They discovered that the laccase works best in slightly acidic conditions at 60 degrees Celsius. By using waste like corn stover and banana peels, they made the bacteria produce more laccase. The purified laccase was very good at removing dye colors, up to 85% in some cases. Overall, this research shows that Enterobacter sp. AI1 and its laccase enzyme could be useful for cleaning up dye pollution from textile factories.
