Aquatic plants like macrophytes play important roles in freshwater ecosystems. They help maintain water quality, provide habitat and food for aquatic life, and indicate the health of the water body. Submerged macrophytes are especially effective in controlling eutrophication. This review discusses the diverse functions of macrophytes in aquatic ecosystems.
