China's Energy-Intensive Industry Transfers Worsen Environmental Pollution, Study Finds
The study looked at how environmental rules in China affect the movement of energy-hungry industries and pollution levels. They found that when a high-energy industry moves and follows environmental rules, pollution decreases. But when both happen together, pollution goes up. The rules and the concentration of these industries can spread pollution to nearby areas, with a bigger impact in the long run. Industries are shifting from richer areas in the east to poorer areas in the west.
