Cow slurry to soil: Antibiotic resistance risk reduced, veggies safer.
Cow farms can spread antibiotic resistance through animal waste. Researchers studied five farms and found that the risk of resistance decreased from cow waste to soil and vegetables. They detected over 18,000 antibiotic resistance genes, with most found in animal waste. Certain genes were identified as high-risk markers. Better management of animal waste is needed to reduce antibiotic resistance.
