Revolutionizing Energy Storage: Abandoned Mines Turned Powerhouses for Communities
The Energy Act of 2020 and FERC Orders 841 and 2222 support energy storage development in the US. Pumped Underground Storage Hydro (PUSH) can be a key player in energy storage, especially in repurposed underground mines. PUSH facilities can benefit communities and help in the energy transition. However, current regulations need to better recognize the full benefits of PUSH and address justice and fairness in energy systems.
