Highway runoff control methods evaluated for sediment impact and efficiency.
The study aimed to estimate erosion and assess how sediments affect methods for controlling highway runoff. Different Best Management Practices (BMPs) were evaluated to see how well they captured sediment and how long they could be used before needing maintenance. The researchers looked at various erosion control methods on construction sites to predict sediment yield and determine the effectiveness of BMPs like detention ponds, infiltration trenches, and grass lined swales. They found that each BMP had different levels of efficiency in capturing sediment and had varying service years before needing maintenance.
