Banks tighten collateral policies for financially stressed firms during crises.
The study looked at how banks use collateral when lending money to businesses, especially during financial crises. They found that struggling companies with low funds are asked for more collateral, especially when the economy is bad. Also, banks with more money and fewer bad loans are stricter about collateral. This shows that safer banks are less risky when giving out loans.
