Boosting plant hormones leads to more seeds, potential crop yield increase!
Enhancing both brassinosteroid (BR) and cytokinin (CK) levels together leads to more ovules and seeds in plants than increasing BR or CK alone. BR and CK work together to boost ovule initiation and seed production. A specific BR-related protein interacts with a CK-related protein to promote ovule formation. Increasing CK levels can help plants with low seed numbers due to BR issues, but increasing BR levels doesn't help plants with low seed numbers due to CK problems. This research shows that a combination of BR and CK can increase seed yield in dicot crops.
