New model predicts sustainable groundwater use with river infiltration recharge.
The goal of the study was to improve a well flow model by including surface infiltration recharge in a phreatic aquifer. The researchers used a potential function method to establish the groundwater flow equation and decomposed the complex problem into simpler sub-models for solution. By applying principles of mass conservation and Darcy's law, they developed equations for groundwater flow in different scenarios, including uniform infiltration recharge near rivers. The study also introduced a boundary reflection method to solve problems in regions between rivers and impermeable boundaries.
