Reduced Impact Logging in Indonesia: Decreased Productivity, Reduced Emissions, Increased Costs.
Timber harvesting in Indonesia's natural forests is often done without fully implementing Reduced Impact Logging (RIL). RIL aims to minimize disturbance to the environment during logging activities. Research shows that RIL can decrease logging productivity but increase efficiency, reduce damage to remaining trees, and have the potential to lower emissions compared to Conventional Logging (CL). To improve RIL practices, it is important to plan harvests carefully, prepare the area properly, and execute logging operations with consideration for the environment.
