New soybean screening method leads to more resistant genotypes against shattering.
Pod shattering is a big problem for soybean farmers, especially in tropical areas. Researchers tested 16 soybean types to see how well their pods stayed intact. They found that detached pods broke more easily than undetached pods. The best way to test pod strength is by using detached pods and drying them in an oven. Pods higher up on the plant were less likely to break. Some soybean types (Anj/G100H-28, Anj/G100H-44, Anj/Rjbs-304, Anj/Rjbs-30, and Detap 1) were consistently good at resisting pod shattering and could be used in breeding programs.
