Six-rotor drone measures wind profiles with high accuracy and consistency.
The researchers used a six-rotor drone with an anemometer to measure wind characteristics in the boundary layer. They found that the wind speed and direction measured by the drone were similar to those measured on a wind tower, with an error of less than 3%. The wind profile fitted by the drone closely matched the standard wind profile. The fluctuating wind parameters measured by the drone were also similar to those measured on the wind tower, with an error of less than 5%. The turbulence intensity and gust factor showed an exponential correlation. The wind power spectrum measured by the drone matched that measured on the wind tower and followed the Karman spectrum.
