Underground constructions with evaporative cooling can cool indoor spaces by 12°C!
Underground constructions in hot climates can be improved by adding aboveground walls for natural ventilation and daylight. This study found that using this method, along with evaporative cooling, can lower indoor temperatures by 3 °C in summer. The research also showed that heat transfer is higher in underground constructions compared to aboveground ones. Additionally, small windows for ventilation can lead to high humidity levels, even in hot regions during summer.
