The article introduces a way to combine Product Data Management (PDM) and Software Configuration Management (SCM) to better handle both hardware and software data in product development. By extending the product data model, engineers can now manage software versions alongside hardware components, making it easier to create and modify products. The new approach was tested with a network-based robot system, showing that the integrated system can effectively manage both software and hardware aspects of product development.
