Coagulation Boosts Contaminant Removal in Stormwater Basins, Improving Water Quality
Detention basins in Washington State are being improved to remove contaminants from stormwater. Researchers tested different chemicals to see which ones help remove sediment and heavy metals better. They found that adding certain chemicals increased metal removal, especially at higher flow rates. Using an influent baffle also improved contaminant removal by slowing down the water flow. These changes can help make stormwater cleaner and safer for the environment.
