Stormwater control practices slash pollution, save communities billions
The study looked at ways to reduce pollution in water from runoff in a developed area. By using different stormwater control methods like ponds and grass swales, they found that it's possible to lower the amount of pollutants entering the water. The researchers used a computer model to calculate how much pollution could be reduced and the costs involved in installing these control practices. In a 228-acre area in Alabama, they found that using a combination of wet detention ponds, grass swales, and bioretention devices could help manage runoff and pollutants effectively.
