Manure storage temperature affects survival of harmful bacteria, impacting food safety.
The study looked at how different types of manure store bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella at different temperatures. They found that E. coli can survive longer in bat and swine manure compared to cattle and chicken manure. Salmonella can survive for up to 21 days in bat and swine manure at 25°C. However, exposing the manure to sunlight can help reduce the bacteria. Temperature and the type of manure play a big role in how long these harmful bacteria can survive.
