Closing yield gap in rice farming boosts food security in Zhejiang.
The study looked at how different ways of planting rice in Zhejiang Province affected the yield. They surveyed over 123 fields with different rice varieties and planting methods. The average yield of late rice was 445.2 kg per unit of land, with a big difference between the highest and lowest yields. They found that the number of spikelets and effective panicles were key factors for higher yields. For transplanting rice, having enough effective panicles and good spikelet fertility was important. When using machines to transplant rice, it was crucial to improve the weight of grains per 1000.
