Marginalized Farmers Boost Incomes by 30% with Innovative Rice-Agroforestry System
The researchers successfully integrated rice farming with fruit trees and cash crops in Quezon Province, Philippines, boosting agricultural productivity and farmers' income. By engaging local farmers in the process, they developed a new farming technique called rice-based agroforestry. In this method, rice is grown alongside trees and crops like eggplant and squash. Farmers saw a significant increase in rice yields and income, with some earning up to P17,000.00 annually. The approach showed that combining different crops in the same area can sustainably enhance rice production and improve farmers' livelihoods in inland valleys.
