Disturbances like grazing and mowing affect species diversity and biomass in grasslands. Exclosures for 27 years and moderately grazed areas had higher diversity than those for 7 years and mowed areas. Cleistogenes squarrosa, a key plant, thrived in mowed and grazed plots. Exclosures for 7 years boosted aboveground biomass, but longer exclosures didn't help.
