High nitrogen levels help sorghum plants grow better, even when they don't get much water. Drought makes photosynthesis harder, especially for plants with low nitrogen. The part of the plant that turns sunlight into energy is pretty tough and can handle some water stress. But the efficiency of this process goes down a bit when there's not enough water. One type of sorghum is less affected by water stress than the other.
